On Wednesday 15th January, Soundings implemented some “quick-wins” around the Gascoigne East Estate in Barking. These quick-wins are short-term, low-cost interventions that improve people’s quality of living. Attendees from workshops drew attention to the disused and neglected state of the estate’s playgrounds and suggested enhancing their visual appearance so they are more inviting to young children. With the help of these attendees, Soundings installed mirrors, blackboards and chalk along the playground’s railings to make the space more interactive, and repainted the railings with a fresh coat of vibrant colours!
Soundings have been working with Be First, who are Barking and Dagenham council’s own regeneration company, and the local community around Gascoigne East Estate since mid-2018 to support the regeneration process.
