The Goodsyard is the name of the former Bishopsgate Goods Yard site, surrounding Shoreditch High Street Station. Sitting between Shoreditch, Banglatown, Spitalfields and the City Fringe. This unique site is part of the GLA’s City Fringe Opportunity Area and has been mostly derelict since a fire in the 1960s. Although more recently, it is recognised for Powerleague and Boxpark who have taken up temporary residence on part of the site.
Soundings have been involved in consultation on the challenging site since 2011 and the process has been instrumental in furnishing a forum for interaction between the developer, the masterplanning team and local stakeholders. Including a one-week ‘ideas week’ attended by stakeholders, council and developer representatives, masterplanners and guest speakers at the end of which over 40 development principles had been agreed. As well as the assembly of a 50-member Community Liaison Group.
The site has had a long history of engagement and most recently, in 2018 we have facilitated consultation on significant changes to the scheme allowing for lower building heights and a focus on workspace and creative industries. Retaining more of the site heritage, with a new approach to routes and public spaces.
