Soundings was appointed by The Collective in 2019 to design and implement an engagement strategy for their co-living development in Canary Wharf, that would help to understand how the building’s spaces could provide socio-economic benefits for the local community alongside future residents.
During the period before Canary Wharf’s launch in the summer of 2019, Soundings and The Collective met with over 150 people that live and work in the local area and organisations that take active roles in communities, including teachers and pupils from local schools, charities, community groups, businesses and the general public.
Through meetings and pop-up events across the Isle of Dogs, Soundings identified a wide range of opportunities. Some ideas included use of spaces for community activities that local people can partake in, such as yoga classes for young mothers, and others were put forward as opportunities for investment through The Collective Foundation’s grant funding programme. Through this work, a partnership between The Collective Foundation and The Economist Foundation has formed, which will provide wide reaching educational benefits for local school children across The Collective’s portfolio, now spanning the UK, US and Germany.
