Soundings was appointed by the London Borough of Haringey in 2015 to develop and deliver an Investment Framework and Delivery Plan for Wood Green. Wood Green has the potential for significant growth with a number of strategic brownfield and regeneration sites that could offer new jobs and homes, and the potential arrival of Crossrail 2.

The Investment Framework’s aim was to provide a clear, comprehensive and coherent delivery and investment plan for optimising investment and shaping major physical and economic change in Wood Green over the next 25 years. The findings, evidence base and recommendations helped the council and its partners to unlock the Wood Green development and regeneration programme.

Throughout the design process, Soundings led extensive community and stakeholder engagement, including an integrated kit of communications, consultations and co-creative sessions. This was to ensure both local and professional expert knowledge was consistently taken on board to produce a quality plan. Extensive

stakeholder mapping also made it possible to undertake meaningful conversations with a large range of consultees in order to understand their perceptions, assets, needs and aspirations.

Soundings carried out a series of complementary studies to build a strong evidence base on Wood Green’s profile. This included character and placemaking, community infrastructure and accommodation, circulation and parking, local economic vitality and retail, employment land and workspace, and energy and the environment.

The events and engagement tools were creative and accessible, enabling participants to fully take part in the design process by sharing with us their ideas and dreams. Our consultation pop-ups and hub were setup as (mobile) living-rooms with passers-by invited to sit on sofas and talk about their concerns and aspirations for Wood Green’s Future.

The scheme was commended in the masterplan & area strategies category at the 2016 New London Awards.
